Styled photoshoots are so much fun. They allow the photographer to choose the location, clothing, and over theme for the photoshoot. For this shoot, I really wanted a hippie, flower child, earth-loving style.
Once I chose the theme I started scouting locations. Lucky for me, I know several people with property I’m allowed to use for photoshoots. This location happens to be my Grandma’s home-place where her and her siblings grew up.
Next I started looking for a model. I knew I wanted a female with long natural uncut hair, someone with natural beauty, no makeup, and someone who could embrace the “hippie” vibe I was looking for. My cousin Priscilla fit the bill and was my first choice. She was happy to be my model.
My next step was choosing the clothes, accessories, and props. I already had everything I need, cool glasses, fringy clothes, and an old beat up guitar. The guitar was actually my final project as an art student in college.
When the time came for the session we waited until evening and then headed out for the shoot. We spent about an hour on location and got some really unique shots. I shot with completely natural light for this shoot, I didn’t use OCF or a bounce disc. I normally would, but we basically had to hike through brush and over fences so I took as less gear as possible.
Total budget for this shoot: $0 (unless you count $6 for ice-cream after haha)
Interesting photoshoots don’t have to cost a lot of money, it just takes a little bit of effort and a good model. Grab your gear, a photogenic friend, and go out and create some beautiful images!
